President Donald Trump is facing criticism for a Truth Social post that compared the Iran conflict death toll to past U.S. wars – listing 18 dead in four months as he attended a dignified transfer on Wednesday, July 22, for four service members killed in the conflict.

On Wednesday, Trump referred to the conflict as a “skirmish” during remarks, prompting backlash from both Democrats and former allies. According to Newsweek, Trump said: “This skirmish we have going on. I call it a skirmish with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Backlash and Defense from Officials

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said Trump was “bragging about killing 18 U.S. soldiers,” according to reports. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called the post “beneath contempt,” and Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said Trump was “downplaying” the loss of American lives, as reported by Newsweek.
