(BigGovernment.news) It’s getting to the point where a toddler can’t even get a decent meal at daycare these days, thanks to onerous, cumbersome, insane rules being foisted on daytime babysitters.
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, the latest food control regulations being foisted on the country by various federal agencies including the Departments of Agriculture and Education have now spread to daycare centers.
Gone will be a kid favorite – Frosted Flakes – as well as any fried foods, and juice can only be served once a day. As noted by the WFB, the regulation is a result of the 2010 law aimed at school lunches, a top priority of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move anti-obesity initiative. The government hopes the new rule will “help children build healthy habits.”
“This final rule updates the meal pattern requirements for the Child and Adult Care Food Program to better align them with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, as required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010,” the final rule states. “This rule requires centers and day care homes participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program to serve more whole grains and a greater variety of vegetables and fruit, and reduces the amount of added sugars and solid fats in meals.”
Breakfast cereals can “contain no more than 6 grams of sugar per dry ounce,” according to the regulation. The sugar limit means no Lucky Charms, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, Cap’n Crunch, or Frosted Flakes.
Yes, America, this is what it’s come to – a nanny state government so intrusive and so invasive that it must now regulate what you are allowed to let your toddler eat for breakfast.
Michelle Obama – an Ivy League lawyer by trade – has no special dietary training or insights other than a desire, primarily, to force your kids to eat a certain way, all while her children, who are sequestered away at the ultra-exclusive Sidwell Friends school, get to eat meals literally prepared by chefs. Dishes include herb-roasted chicken, crusted tilapia, all-natural beef nachos, Strawberries and chevre salad, all-natural house-made chicken fingers, and much, much more. You can see a fuller menu here; see some pictures of sad school meals here.
In fact, her kids eat so well at their school are ranked #1 on The Daily Meal’s “The Best School Lunches in America:”
Cuisines you’d never dream of show up on the menu here, such as an entire lunch of Brazilian delicacies like feijoada, caldo verde soup, all-natural chicken with coconut milk, and mango and pineapple with lime and mint. There’s …creative dishes like the Creole caprese salad or hot and sour Cajun gumbo served on “Fat Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the nation’s children get to feast on low-calorie gruel that oftentimes amounts to dishes that are less palatable (and less healthy) than what prisoners get. Not only that, according to the Government Accountability Office, Michelle Obama’s rules are costing schools (and taxpayers) billions of dollars a year in wasted food because kids are opting out of school lunch programs in droves.
And where is Congress in all of this? When has the GOP-controlled Congress once put its foot down on all of this overly-intrusive insanity by withholding funding from agencies like the USDA and Dept. of Education – even if the amount withheld is only what the GAO estimates the Let’s Move initiative is costing taxpayers? Doing so would put the president in the position of having to explain his wife’s expensive and ineffective interference in the nation’s school lunch programs, or going along with the cuts.
But the bottom line is this: With all that is wrong in the country and the world, having Uncle Sam micromanage what we’re feeding our own kids in daycare is the epitome of misplaced priorities. Something to think about when you get in a polling booth this fall.
In the meantime, more and more parents should opt their kids out of ‘Chef Michelle’s’ asinine school lunch vision, especially while her kids are eating high on the hog at your expense. It’s a great way to tell her to stay out of your child’s lunchroom.
